HQ SWIM SCHOOL SAFETY TRAINING FOR SWIM COACHES
HealthQuest’s Tracy Talbott, swim instructor, CPR/First Aid trainer, water safety instructor, coach, safety consultant and mom, had the help of her son and professional swimmer/Olympic hopeful Reece, on a recent balmy evening at the HQ Fitness Pool for a Safety Training for Swim Coaches.
HealthQuest’s Swim School Instructors gathered around a BACKBOARD, RESCUE TUBE and other emergency equipment as Tracy led them through several basic water safety and swimmer rescue training exercises.
Tracy led her crew through several exercises instructing them on the finer points of swimmer extraction from the pool. Demonstrations on the proper use of the ‘Shepherd’s Crook’, the ‘Life Ring’ and the time tested ‘Grab My Hand!’ were all performed. Rescuers also got to practice with the ‘Backboard Extraction Method’ and learned how to safely pull a swimmer out of danger on the rigid backboard.
Tracy enlisted the help of HQ Swim Coach and former UCLA Head Life Guard, Chris Page to demonstrate techniques for rescuing a distressed swimmer in the pool using only a Safety Tube and your wits! The ‘pull out,’ or getting the swimmer out of the pool solo, is the big challenge and Chris’ help was invaluable in demonstrating proper form and technique!
Finally team members hopped into the pool and got to practice the ‘head splint’ swimmer rescue technique themselves!
